Rep. Juan Vargas Votes for Interim Emergency Funding Legislation for Small Businesses, Hospitals, and Testing
Washington, D.C. (April 23, 2020) Rep. Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement after voting for an interim emergency funding package for small businesses, hospitals, and testing, that Congress passed today.
“I’m glad to see this piece of legislation passed quickly, which includes $360 billion in additional funding for small businesses relief. More importantly, $30 billion of these funds are reserved for community-based lenders, small banks, and credit unions, ensuring that our most vulnerable communities don't fall through the cracks. I’m also pleased the bill includes funding for hospitals and additional funding to increase access to testing.
“The new piece of legislation will secure an additional $75 billion for hospitals to provide essential resources for those courageously working the frontlines. The legislation also includes an important piece securing $25 billion to ensure that coronavirus testing is available for everyone who needs a test, including the uninsured, in order to protect the health and well-being of all our communities.
“Our work, however, is far from over, Congress must continue working relentlessly to ensure all workers and families have the resources they need today, and throughout this economic downturn.
“Negotiations must continue on the next legislation package that focuses on the best interest of the general public including additional relief for individuals and local communities.”
